Hoop Mountain NY Showcase Recap

March 20th, 2012
Matt Gibson

Top NYC area players flocked to the Island Garden to show their progress they made during the high school season.

The Island Garden was host to some of the New York area's top prospects on Sunday as over 100 players came out for the event in hopes getting noticed by college coaches. The event was a great success as there were multiple prospects from the classes of 2012 through 2016. Heres a list of some of the players that caught our eye on Sunday.

Jonathan Grimsley (Central HS, 2012)- Big Point Guard with college ready body. Grimsley has great court vision and we even saw him connect to a teammate on a beautiful behind the back pass in transition. The 2012 guard is very physical, especially when going to the basket. The Central HS product gets after it on defense by making other guards turn the ball over due to his aggressive pressure.

Marcellus Anderson (Thelma Hamilton, 2012)- Brooklyn wing player who at 6’4'' creates matchup problems with his length and serious athleticism. We saw Anderson apply full court ball pressure on defense that turned into easy transition throw-downs.

Devante Harvey (NIA Prep, 2012)- Harvey is a fast guard/forward that possesses a good physique. The 6'4'' NIA Prep product did a solid job of getting into the defenders body on his drives, as didn’t shy away from the contact.

Jeff Neverson (NIA Prep, 2012)- Neverson got it done all day long in transition, looking for lobs from his fellow guards. The 6’6'' forward showed spectators that he is not only a super athlete, but he is a good passer for his size as well. Very nice prospect with a lot of versatility.

Carson Hynes (Senton Catholic, 2012)- Big man that runs the floor hard and showed off a solid fundamental skill set on Sunday. A 7 footer, Hynes has all of the tools to become a good college player as his potential is almost unlimited.

KC Nwosu (New Rochelle, 2012)- Scholarship level athlete with scholarly grades. This 6’6'' super athlete is very active and tough around the rim.

Brandon Bermeo (Satellite Academy, 2012)- Big wing player who had no problem finishing over the rim on Sunday.

Sam Dovissaiut (West Hill, 2012)- Big time athlete (6'7'') who we saw finish for dunks off of the dribble.

Travis Dickerson (Amityville, 2014)- Long athlete who showed some impressive defensive intensity, swatting away multiple shot attempts.

Jalen Jenkins (Elizabeth, 2014)- Crafty, 5'7'' guard who finished and created in traffic. Jenkins showed great court and is only going to get better as he just a sophomore.

Darren Chew (St. Dominic, 2012)- Great athlete on the break as his defensive pressure translated into transition dunks for the 6'1'' guard.

Danny Turkvan (Stamford)- Athletic, physical forward who made a living on Sunday doing the little things inside for his team. In addition to his toughness on the inside, the 6'4'' Turkvan showed off a smooth 3 point stroke from the outside.

Hunter Sabety 6’7 (Oceanside, 2013)- Junior Big Man with a solid frame and great skill. Sabety has a nice touch around the rim as we saw him convert on many tip ins around the cylinder. The Oceanside product was especially successful off of pick and rolls and possessed a high basketball IQ.

Josh Treadwell (NIA Prep, 2012)- Tall wing that can stroke from deep and finish above the rim.

Antwuan Boyd (West Hill)- Big guard/forward at 6'5'' that got in the lane at will for easy dunks.

Francisco Williams (Hollis, NY 2014)- Young athletic 6'6'' forward with a solid skill set. Natually smooth on offense.

Amari Gaddy (NIA Prep, 2012)- Wing with good length that allows him to glide by defenders with his long strides and finish above the rim.

Mike Russo (Central HS, 2012)- Solid Big Man who runs the floor and does the dirty work inside for his squad

Darrel Lucky(NIA Prep, 2012)- Very good passer that showcased his talents best when in a pick and roll setting, finding teammates on beautiful bounce passes in the lane.

Tony Dobbinson (Westhill, 2012)- Quick 5'9'' guard with a controlled, tight handle.

Armon Correa (Bellport, 2012)- Physical guard that slashes to the rim at will.

Elijiah McMillan (Baldwin)- Solid, long wing that is strong going to the cup.

Kyle McGinley (Calhoun, 2013)- Fundamentally sound guard that sees the court well at 5'10''.  We saw him connect on some beautiful drop passes in the lane to teammates.
